This massage includes focused work where you need it, plus a castor oil pack application to a targeted area (ie: abdomen). Castor oil packs—cloths soaked in castor oil and placed on the body, often with a heating pad—are used to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and support lymphatic drainage. Our castor oil is organic, cold-pressed, and hexane free. Our fabric of choice is organic cotton wool, medical-grade. You will be given your oil-soaked pack to take home with you to use the pack at the comfort of your own home. Add-ons are subject to availability and selected/paid for at the time of appointment. Why should you use a castor oil pack? Pain & Inflammation Relief: Castor oil contains ricinolein acid, which has naturally occurring anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Packs are commonly used to soothe sore muscles, aching joints, and menstrual cramps. Digestive Support: Applied to the abdomen, the packs are believed to stimulate intestinal movement, reduce bloating, and relieve occasional constipation. Lymphatic Drainage: Holistic practitioners recommend the packs over the liver or abdomen to stimulate lymphatic flow, which aids the body in clearing out toxins and excess fluid. Relaxation & Stress Relief: Applying a warm pack paired with rest can help activate the parasympathetic nervous system, easing tension and promoting relaxation. Skin Health: Because castor oil is rich in fatty acids and vitamin E, the topical application helps deeply moisturize, soothe dry patches, and support the skin barrier. How to Use Prepare: Soak a piece of unbleached cotton or wool flannel in high-quality, cold-pressed castor oil. Apply: Place the cloth directly onto the target area (e.g., lower abdomen, liver, or sore joints). Heat: Cover the pack with a plastic wrap or towel to prevent leaks, and apply a warm heating pad to encourage skin absorption. Rest: Leave the pack on for 30 to 60 minutes. Reuse: You can reuse the same oil-soaked fabric for up to 30 uses if you wish. Store in the refrigerator in-between uses for maximum freshness. Safety Precautions While generally safe, you should avoid castor oil packs if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, on your period, or experiencing active inflammatory conditions (like Crohn's disease flare-ups).
